Pakistani famous people ask for answers after a hospital fire killed 14 newborn babies.
Mehwish Hayat, Bushra Ansari, and others are mourning the deaths and demanding answers about the tragedy.
Pakistani celebrities have asked for justice and being held responsible after a fire at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad killed 14 newborn babies. Many stars are demanding answers on how such a disaster could happen in a hospital.
Actor Mehwish Hayat wrote on Instagram that she finds it hard to accept this tragedy. She said it's very upsetting that 14 babies died in a place where they 'should have been most safe'.
She wrote: 'These tragedies cannot just be another news story. We need answers, accountability, and most of all, a society where our women, children, and the most vulnerable are safe.'
Veteran actor Bushra Ansari also asked about the country's situation and urged religious leaders and people from all backgrounds to step up and ask for justice.
She wrote on Instagram: 'Every day is terrible!! Are newborn babies being burned? Are babies being raped, killed, or in danger? Are women not safe even at home?'
Senior actor Mohammed Ahmed Syed asked why there is no justice in cases about children and called for the same kind of accountability in the PIMS tragedy.
He said, 'Please open your eyes, at least give justice to one of these people.'
Zara Noor Abbas posted on Instagram Stories that she can't even imagine what the grieving mothers are feeling.
She wrote, 'I have no words. I don't know what to say because nothing anyone says seems to help.' She added that children dying from being killed or kidnapped is changing how people see the world and hurting their mental health.
Veteran actor Rubina Ashraf called the event a 'dark day' in the country's past and blamed the deaths on what she saw as 'pure carelessness.'
She wrote, 'A DARK DAY in our country's history. 14 babies burned to death!!! This is nothing but pure carelessness.'
Actors Sajal Aly and Ayesha Omar also criticized what they saw as a breakdown of the system and a failure in how it works, respectively.
Other famous people, like Ahsan Khan, Samar Jafri, Bilal Abbas, Azeekah Daniel, and Sabeena Farooq, also posted messages and videos to mourn the deaths and show how sad the victims' families are.
This tragedy also made people look more closely at fire safety in hospitals. The deaths pushed authorities in other areas to check how ready hospitals and other places are for emergencies and fires.
But for the families of the babies who died, what matters most right now is a clear investigation, holding those responsible accountable, and getting justice for the ones who were lost.
