Imran Ashraf says he is 'completely okay' after AI-made videos spread fake news about his 'death'
The star is not the first to learn about his own death from the internet.
Actor Imran Ashraf has told his fans that he is 'totally okay' after fake videos made by AI were shared online, saying he had died.
He put a story on his Instagram saying the news was not true and he is alive. He still asked for his fans' prayers, maybe to keep away AI troublemakers.
The story probably responded to several AI-made videos on social media where people said the actor died from a 'dil attack'.
A TikTok account posted many of these clips showing AI versions of actor Bilal Abbas, cricket star Shahid Afridi, and journalist Mansoor Ali Khan. There was even a video of the Mazaaq Raat host's 'funeral'.
Ashraf is not the first famous person to be tricked by fake AI information, and he's definitely not the first to hear rumors that he died.
In June, singer Tahira Syed posted a video on Facebook to show she was alive after hearing about her own death online. She also said she was 'doing just fine' and asked people not to share any news without checking it first.
About a month later, actor Tauseeq Haider learned that he and actor Farah Saadia had 'married' according to pictures spreading on social media.
The two made a statement together saying they were both still 'happily single' and asked the people who made the AI-generated pictures to send them wedding gifts.
On November 10, Indian film star Dharmendra was reported dead by the Indian media while he was in the hospital—but he was actually still alive. The actor actually died a couple of weeks later, on November 24.
