To celebrate 100 years since Marilyn Monroe was born, Los Angeles is holding many events to honor her famous life, acting career, and lasting impact on culture.
Born in Los Angeles on June 1, 1926, Monroe is remembered for her famous movies and how she overcame a hard childhood and early marriage to become a Hollywood star.
Over time, Monroe became a famous movie star. She was known for fighting unfair stereotypes and for talking about how women were mistreated in Hollywood, long before people started discussing these issues openly.
Her 100th birthday celebrations started Monday morning at the TCL Chinese Theatre. The event included singing 'Happy Birthday' with her former co-star Jane Russell, 100 roses, and a special cake.
The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is hosting a new exhibit called "Marilyn Monroe: Hollywood Icon." It features famous moments from her movies and her personal items. The exhibit will be open until February 2027.
The museum will also show classic Marilyn Monroe movies all month, such as Niagara (1953), The Seven Year Itch (1955), and The Misfits (1961).
The exhibition also showed original items, such as the pink dress Marilyn Monroe wore while singing 'Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend' in the 1953 film Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.
Also, Julien's Auctions will hold a special sale called "100 Years of Marilyn" on June 4, showing about 200 items from Marilyn Monroe's life and career.
Monroe died in her Brentwood home in August 1962 at age 36. She is still a famous Hollywood icon, and her impact on movies, fashion, and culture continues more than fifty years later.
