Wasim Akram, a former cricket player and coach, joined the Karachi versus Lahore food discussion online. He said Lahore has good food, but Karachi has more options.
Akram shared an Instagram video saying he's been following the online argument between people from Karachi and Lahore. He joked, "I've noticed a big debate on social media. Karachi and Lahore are at it again."
The famous cricket player stated that he's able to talk about this because he's been involved with both cities for a long time.
"I've lived in Lahore for 42 years. I was born there, so I'm a Lahori. But I've also lived in Karachi for the last 14 years. Because of this, I think I can end this argument now," he said.
Akram mentioned politician Fawad Chaudhry and his comment that the food in Karachi is 'okay.' Jokingly, Akram replied, 'Chaudhry Sir, which Karachi are you talking about?'
The ex-fast bowler talked about how much he loves food. He mentioned that he went to Lahore for the PSL finals and got to visit his favorite old places for grilled chops and chaat.
But when it was time to pick a winner, Akram said Karachi was the best because it has so many different kinds of food.
"I'm sorry, but Karachi's food scene is very diverse. Because people from different backgrounds live here – Pathans, Balochis, Punjabis, and locals – you find a mix of dishes for everyone. Restaurants offer many different kinds of food," he said.
He said Lahore is famous for its food, especially certain dishes and places.
Akram remembered visiting Lahore's popular food street by the Badshahi Mosque. He said many cricket commentators liked eating there, but he thought the food had gotten too spicy over time.
"This food is very spicy. Where did all these peppers and creams come from in Lahori food?" he said, joking.
In summary, Akram stated, "Lahore has good food, but Karachi has a wider selection."
He finished the video with a smile, saying in Punjabi, "Please don't get angry at me for what I think."
This discussion shows the ongoing Karachi versus Lahore food argument. It's a fun but serious rivalry in Pakistan's city life, where each city strongly protects its food culture.
Karachi is known for having diverse food from all over Pakistan, while Lahore is famous for its traditional, spicy food found in its old food streets.
