Meera asks for a UK visa to see her sister, who has advanced cancer.
An actress is asking UK officials to think about granting her visa for compassionate reasons, so she can go to London.
Veteran actor Meera has asked the British government to give her a visa for special personal reasons so she can fly to London to visit her sister, Shahista Abbas, who she says has serious, advanced cancer.
In a video that is spreading online, Meera spoke directly to UK embassy officials and government leaders in both Pakistan and London, pleading with them to look at her situation and let her travel.
She said, "I am reaching out to the London embassy and other government officials in Pakistan and London to ask for a visa to see my sister Shahista Abbas, who is in London. She has advanced-stage cancer, and her condition is very serious."
She also mentioned that her mother, Shafqat Zahra Bukhari, and her younger brother, Saeed Hussain Abbas, are in London right now too.
Speaking from New York, Meera said her sister's health had gotten worse, and she strongly wanted to be with her during what she called a very hard time for her family.
She asked British officials to "look at my situation with kindness and help speed up my case," requesting permission to come to London.
In the past, Meera has had trouble getting permission to enter the UK, where many of her family members are British citizens.
She also asked British PM Andy Burnham, Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband, and the British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriott, to show compassion for her situation and help move her visa application along.
