Hina Parvez Butt speaks about AI misuse following Jannat Mirza video

Punjab Assembly member Hina Parvez Butt has spoken out about the rising misuse of artificial intelligence to harm women's privacy and dignity. This comes after content creator Jannat Mirza shared her experience of being targeted by fake AI-made content.

Butt posted on X to talk about the issue, calling the fake video of Mirza a serious warning about how technology can be misused.

"The AI-made fake video of Jannat Mirza has brought up an extremely serious problem. Technology is meant for progress and ease, not for attacking anyone's honor, dignity, or privacy. Using women's images or faces without permission is not acceptable."

She also said, "There will be no compromise on the honor and protection of women!"

Butt's comments came one day after Mirza shared an AI-made video of herself with a man, showing how fake content is spreading more and more online.

Mirza said that, since she is a social media personality, she can publicly clarify whether content about her is real or fake. But she stressed that for women who don't use social media, the problem could be much harder, because they might not even know their images or faces are being misused.

She also pointed out the serious harm such fake videos can cause to a woman's reputation, dignity, and privacy, and warned about the bigger dangers of misusing AI-generated content.

Butt raised the same concerns in a video clip she shared with her post. She said, "Today, AI is a big part of life, but using it without anyone's, especially women's, permission should not be allowed. This is very worrying. Today it's one woman, tomorrow it could be anyone else. If a woman's face is used without her consent, that's a digital rights violation and a crime."

She told victims to report the material to the right cybercrime offices and said women in Punjab can also call the Punjab Women Protection Authority helpline. "This is a serious issue we need to deal with, because women's dignity and honor must never be threatened," she said at the end.

This event has again highlighted the problems caused by AI-made or altered content, especially when women's pictures are used without their permission. As this technology gets easier to use, issues about privacy, consent, and online safety remain a key part of discussions about women's rights on the internet.

Butt also gave women advice on what to do if they become victims of such content. She told them to take a screenshot of the material right away or save the link, but warned them not to share it further.
